What the rules say
Where an AOV forms part of a building’s smoke control provision, the responsible person must keep it maintained in efficient working order under the Fire Safety Order 2005. Regular servicing (commonly six-monthly or annual, depending on the system and risk) is the accepted way to demonstrate that duty.

How often should an AOV system be serviced?
Most systems should be serviced at least annually, and higher-risk or heavily used buildings six-monthly. Weekly/monthly interim checks of the panel indicators can be folded into our scheduled testing visits if we already attend the building.
